Singer and actor Tyrese Gibson recently made headlines when he offered to pay a young man’s Morehouse College tuition; an act that was graciously accepted by 21-year-old Lorenzo Murphy, also known as the popular Instagram personality “Zo the Motivator.”

Gibson, who is coming off the heels of his own good news (his newest album is steadily climbing the charts) took to Instagram to explain the good deed, citing inspiration from famous radio host Tom Joyner’s foundation, which supports HBCU scholarships.

Why did I decide to put this young kid from Compton through college?? Because I #dream with my eyes OPEN and this year I watch this true legend get UP on stage and give the most moving speech about WHY he has raised and donated over 65 million dollars and put close to 30,000 african american kids into college and I decided at that MOMENT I needed to DO something……. It's all about the #Start and this young kid is #StraightOuttaCompton and he started his first day in college yesterday – Tom Joyner sir you ARE a legend and you HAVE impacted our world – 30,000 young sharp minds have an opportunity to be SIGNIFICANT in their lives because of you….. BET honored that day but you should be blessed and honored ALL YEAR for what YOU do on behalf of others….. Shout to @zothemotivator HBCU #MoreHouseCollege Walking the same grounds at Dr Martin Luther King Jr – you did the WORK ANS EARNED your slot….. Make up proud Zo please make us proud!! Murphy, a native of Compton, Ca., thanked Gibson for his generosity, posting a photograph of Gibson and Rev Run as a newly minted “Man of Morehouse.”

“None of this would be possible without God, @tyrese, the support from my family and of course, my relentless hard work. Annually, Morehouse is around 45k-50k and as you can imagine, that is a lot of money. I thank God for placing @tyrese in my life,” he wrote. “It is because of him believing in me and investing in my future, that I am able to receive my education. I am amongst the worlds greatest leaders and I want to thank @tyrese for giving me the opportunity to be pursue my academic and career endeavors at Morehouse College.”

We wish Murphy the best as he matriculates through college.
