Ways To Find Your Polling Place Before November 6

If voters haven’t received their Voter Information Ballots by now, they should consider calling their local election offices before the Nov. 6 election to ensure that they have accurate information.  Another source of information is a website maintained by the League of Women Voters Education Fund called Vote 411. It enables voters to enter the address where they are registered and get information on polling places.  In addition, boards of election offices in most states maintain websites where voters can get information on how to find polling places.  Every vote counts – make sure yours is among them!

Court Rules Pennsylvania Can Vote Without Photo ID

In one of the country’s most high-profile voter ID cases, a Pennsylvania Commonwealth judge has ordered an injunction to block the state’s strict photo ID law.  The law, which was passed by the state’s Republican-controlled government, required voters to produce a government-issued photo ID in order to cast their ballots–which has been highly criticized by advocates who say it discriminates against minority, low-income and elderly voters, among others.
Pennsylvania is one of many states that passed photo ID laws, many of which are being contested in court. The injunction comes just in time for the November presidential election.

Wall Street Preparing For Obama Victory As Romney Falls Behind In Polls

NEW YORK — As President Barack Obama widened his lead over Mitt Romney in polls this month, traders at hedge funds and investment firms began shooting emails to clients with a similar theme: It’s time to start preparing for an Obama victory.
What many in the market worry about isn’t that high earners may pay more in taxes if Obama wins. They worry that federal spending cuts and tax hikes scheduled for 2013 will kick in on Jan. 1 and start pulling the country into another recession. The higher taxes and lower spending would total $600 billion. They take effect automatically unless Congress and the White House reach a deal before then.

(Reuters) – President Barack Obama maintains a lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney with 40 days left until the November 6 election, the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll said on Thursday.  The daily tracking poll said Obama had 49 percent support to 42 percent for Romney among likely voters. Ipsos interviewed 1,194 registered voters online for the survey.

President Obama has a strong lead over Mitt Romney in New Hampshire and narrow advantages in Nevada and North Carolina, according to a new series of NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist College polls, putting him ahead in virtually every swing state with fewer than 40 days before the election.
The president leads 51 to 44 among likely voters in New Hampshire, a state he won in 2008 but one Romney advisers view as winnable for their candidate. Obama has a 49 to 47 advantage in Nevada and a 48 to 46 lead in North Carolina, both well within the margin of error of the surveys. (Go to NBC’s First Read for even more details on the polls.)

President Barack Obama And First Lady Michelle Obama Charm On "The View"

This morning, the Commander-in-Chief and First Lady graced the set of “The View” to talk about all those super cute things we love about them, like where they shared their first kiss, how the President tucks Michelle in at night, and how they want to retrace their honeymoon voyage once they leave the White House (in 2016 hopefully).
The mood was definitely light, despite the fast-approaching election day. The president did briefly address his opponent Mitt Romney and his plans for the country over the next four years, but the highlight of their appearance was definitely the Barack-Michelle love fest.  See a clip below:

Obama’s Approval Rating Up More Than 50 Percent

WASHINGTON — Americans are feeling markedly better about the country’s future and about Barack Obama‘s job performance, but the president’s re-election race against Republican Mitt Romney remains a neck-and-neck proposition as Election Day creeps ever closer, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll.  Buoyed by good mojo coming out of last month’s national political conventions, Obama’s approval rating is back above 50 percent for the first time since May, and the share of Americans who think the country is moving in the right direction is at its highest level since just after the death of Osama bin Laden in May 2011.

Former Senator Carol Moseley Braun To Run For Chicago Mayor!

Braun to Run for Chicago Mayor
CHICAGO (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun kicked off her campaign for Chicago mayor Saturday by reintroducing herself to voters, some of whom weren’t even born when she last won election in 1992.  Braun, who runs an organic food company, was the last of six major candidates to formally declare her candidacy to replace retiring Mayor Richard Daley, who has presided over the city for more than 20 years but announced in September that he wouldn’t seek a seventh term. The former senator joins a race that includes former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.  “While the city has many challenges: creating jobs, balancing our budget, fixing our schools, protecting our seniors and our children and making our government more accountable to the people, I stand before you today in the fervent belief that there is no city in this country better positioned for progress and opportunity for all its citizens than Chicago,” Braun told more than 100 supporters at an outdoor rally on Chicago’s lakefront with the skyline as her backdrop.  The 63-year-old Braun made history when she was elected in 1992 as the first black woman in the U.S. Senate. She lost a re-election bid in 1998 and was later named ambassador to New Zealand. Braun also ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for president in 2004.  She is hoping voters will be attracted to her breadth of government experience. Before winning the 1992 Senate race for the seat President Barack Obama later went on to hold, Braun served as an Illinois state lawmaker and Cook County government official.  In the mayor’s race, Braun will likely have to address some past miscues that raised questions about her judgment, including a highly criticized visit with a brutal Nigerian dictator when she was a senator and never-proven accusations about misused campaign money.
Braun is counting on her business experience running a small company that specializes in coffee, tea and spices to be a plus with voters. She said she’s had to work hard to weather the recession that battered businesses, both big and small.  In her attempt at a political comeback, Braun has the backing of U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, who said he was friends with Emanuel and the other two major black candidates in the race, state Sen. James Meeks and U.S. Rep. Danny Davis. In fact, Rush said he “loved” Davis.  “But you know what? This election is not about friendship, it’s about leadership,” Rush bellowed into a microphone, revving up Braun’s supporters.  A group of black leaders tried to prevent splitting black votes in the Feb. 22 mayor’s race by picking Davis as their preferred candidate over other finalists, including Meeks and Braun.  Braun singled out Emanuel during her announcement speech, taking him to task over a TV commercial that says people must decide whether Chicago will become a “second-tier” city. Braun said Chicago can’t just be great for people who live in the “right neighborhoods.”  “Let me tell you something about us: Chicago will always be a great city because its people will tolerate nothing less,” she said.  Other major declared candidates in the mayor’s race are Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle and former Chicago school board president Gery Chico.
