Global Superstar Rihanna’s Success in Music and Make Up Have Made Her a Billionaire

Thirty three year-old Barbados native Robyn Fenty, best known to the world as singing superstar Rihanna, through the success of her smash hits and cosmetics company Fenty Beauty, has officially become a billionaire.

According to Forbes, Rihanna is now worth $1.7 billion, which makes her the wealthiest woman musician on the planet.

Although Rihanna has ruled the global music charts with hits like “Umbrella,” “The Only Girl In the World,” “Diamonds,” and “Work,” the bulk of her assets come from Fenty Beauty ($1.4 billion) and her lingerie offshoot Savage x Fenty (approximately $270 million).

Forbes estimated that Rihanna owns about 30 percent of Savage x Fenty and about 50 percent of Fenty Beauty, which works to provide consumers with inclusive beauty products that work for a wide range of skin types and colors.

Rihanna has used her amassing wealth to support and create several charities, such as her Clara Lionel Foundation, which she founded in 2012 in honor of her grandparents.

CLF supports and funds education initiatives and emergency response to natural disasters, and advocates for policy and systems change to improve the quality of life for communities across the globe.

Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation Donates $5 Million to Aid and Support Global COVID-19 Response

Rihanna‘s Clara Lionel Foundation announced yesterday that it will donate $5 million to aid in the global coronavirus response.

The foundation will team up with on-the-ground partners to serve marginalized communities in the United States, Caribbean, and Africa to prepare and protect against the spreading virus. Justine Lucas, Executive Director of the Clara Lionel Foundation, said in a statement, “Never has it been more important or urgent to protect and prepare marginalized and underserved communities–those who will be hit hardest by this pandemic.”

The Clara Lionel Foundation’s partners include Direct Relief, Feeding America, Partners in Health, The World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, the International Rescue Committee, and others.

Funds will support:

• Local food banks serving at-risk communities and the elderly in the United States;

• Acceleration of testing and care in countries like Haiti and Malawi, as well as the mobilization of resources and additional capacity and support for Native communities;

• Protective equipment for frontline health workers and diagnostic labs, the establishment and maintenance of intensive care units, and acceleration of the development of vaccines and other therapies across the globe;

• Healthcare worker training, virus prevention and containment in countries that will be on the frontlines of the COVID-19 response; and,

• Distribution of critical respiratory supplies.

The Clara Lionel Foundation stated on its website that it “believes that one of the most powerful weapons we have against COVID-19 is preparedness. Protecting our frontline health workers and marginalized communities around the world requires getting ahead of it fast and the time to act is now.”

Rihanna Launches Need-Based Global Scholarship Program to Help Provide U.S. College Education

Rihanna wants to reward students who believe in hard work. On Monday the singer announced the new Global Scholarship Program, which will assist students from various countries in attaining a college education in the U.S.
Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation will offer scholarships to residents of Barbados, Brazil, Cuba, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti and Jamaica who are eligible to attend school in the U.S. and have been accepted into an accredited four-year college or university. Through the need-based scholarship, they will have the opportunity to receive an award between $5,000 and $50,000 to go toward their tuition.
“I don’t think it’s fair that children carry the burden of financial limitations at such a young age,” Rihanna stated. “To be able to give the gift of an education is actually an honor. Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this.”
The application process was launched Monday and continues until June 10. Fifty winners will be judged on “academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience and a personal essay.” Applications can be submitted here, and winners will be announced in August.
