The former BET host will join Giuliana Rancic at the news desk, while his predecessor Ryan Seacrest continues as E! News managing editor.
Terrence Jenkins will slip into Ryan Seacrest‘s former slot as co-host of E! News. With the multi-hyphenate relinquishing his news duties as part of a wide-ranging deal he signed with NBC Universal this past spring, E! has hired the former 106 & Parkco-host to join Giuliana Rancic at the weekday anchor desk beginning November 12. As part of his new role, Jenkins (formerly known as Terrence J) will work on personality profiles and will report for the news program.Jason Kennedy and Catt Sadler will take the helm of E! News Weekend. The move comes as the newly-rebranded network looks to be a bigger player in the competitive breaking news landscape under chairwoman Bonnie Hammer.
“The most important thing for E! to move forward is credibility, with immediacy being a close second,” Hammer told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview last fall, noting the significance of being able to delve into smarter news stories as well as to break entertainment news moving forward.
“Terrence Jenkins is a talented and well-connected television personality who will bring an original sensibility to our news programs,” E! President of network strategy and E! News Cyndi McClellannoted in a statement.
Added Jenkins: “I’ve always had a passion for the wide spectrum of pop culture that E! News covers so well; I can’t wait to get started. I’ve had a great career so far, and it’s all been building toward this.”
Jenkins brings with him a host of Hollywood experience. In addition to his work on the BET countdown show, he starred in the 2007 Stomp the Yard sequel, Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming,Steve Harvey‘s Think Like a Man, the recently released Sparkle and the fourth season of BET’s The Game. What’s more, he has appeared on E!’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians spin-off, Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami.
For his part, Seacrest had been scaling back his on-air news duties at E! News to accommodate an increasingly busy schedule that includes hefty travel for Fox’s American Idol. As part of his new two-year pact, he will remain managing editor of the news program and will continue to host and produce E! red carpet award show coverage.
