- “Saturday Night Live,” with host Kerry Washington and musical guest Eminem averaged a 4.9/12 in household results in Nielsen’s 56 metered markets and a 2.6/12 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with Local People Meters. “SNL” was the #1 non-sports telecast of the night on the Big 4 networks in metered-market households and in the Local People Meters, topping all primetime entertainment programming on those networks last night. “Saturday Night Live” delivered its highest rating in metered-market households since March 9 (5.9/15 with host and musical guest Justin Timberlake).
A short explanation: Metered-markets ratings are typically the first available ratings information from the previous night, and is based on the electronic measurement service that Nielsen provides in 56 of the nation’s largest markets. In each market a sample of homes is selected to represent that individual market. Usually, networks will provide metered market information as an early indicator of a program’s performance, with the 56 metered markets representing roughly 70% of all USA TV households, or about 80 million homes. Nielsen measures roughly 115 million television households in the USA.
Therefore the 4.9 rating last night’s episode of SNL received, translates to close to 4 million viewers – it’s highest rating in metered-market households since Justin Timberlake hosted towards the end of last season, in March, when metered-market ratings were plus 1 million viewers. So, as already noted, last night’s episode is the highest-rated this season for SNL. Way to bring it, Ms. Washington!
